Charlie Caterpillars is a private day-care nursery which specialises in caring for children up to 12yrs. The nursery is based in Bloxwich, Walsall and is run as a private business. I am one of the owners and principally run the setting with assistance from a dedicated management team. We employ over 40 staff.
I attended a business planning workshop run by Eurosource which was organised through Walsall Children's Services. As a result of this I engaged Eurosource to deliver a be-spoke development programme for all staff within the Setting. The content of this programme has been driven by myself in discussion with Chris Hooper the Training and Development Director from Eurosource.
This programme was supported by funding from the Skills Funding Agency.
The programme which started in February 2010 was completed in the Summer of 2011. The programme was delivered at the Setting through a combination of half day and evening workshops and all appropriate course work completed on these workshops.
Programme Aim
This dedicated programme was designed to enhance the appropriate individual and team attributes focussing on the knowledge, skills and motivation to enable staff to move into the world of 'high performance' which will add considerable value to the continued development and sustainability of the Setting.
Programme Objectives
By the end of this dedicated development programme staff acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and motivation to:
· Communicate effectively with children, parents and each other
· Effectively cascade information and knowledge as appropriate
· Develop personal relationships with parents and their colleagues
· Work effectively as a team
· Take effective decisions
· Manage risk and ensure their actions reduce the risks to health and safety
· Promote equality of opportunity and diversity in their area of responsibility
· Mange their own resources
· Manage the environmental impact on their work
· Develop the culture of their Setting
· Develop a customer focussed Setting
· Look after the long term reputation of the business
· Market first and lasting impressions
· Support customer service improvements
· Go the 'extra mile'
As a consequence of the success of this programme Charlie Caterpillars restructured the business, resulting in some of the learners being promoted and the organisation achieving an Outstanding OFSTED report. Staff have now acquired the following qualifications:
All staff: NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques (BIT) - Level 2
Management Team: Chartered Management Institute (CMI) - Certificate - Level 3
Director: Chartered Management Institute (CMI) - Diploma - Level 7
